The bioinformatics graduate certificate program trains students in the techniques
required to generate, analyze, and interpret complex biologically-derived data sets.
The certificate program is a multi-disciplinary program that involves faculty in departments
across the university and is administered through the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
Upon completion of this certificate program, you will understand terminologies, technologies
and concepts used in the analysis of data related to genomes and genome structures.
You will acquire sufficient cross-disciplinary knowledge and be able to independently
design bioinformatics projects in the core disciplines of life sciences, computer
sciences and statistics.
The objectives of the bioinformatics certification program are to improve your employability
post graduation, consolidate interests from multiple departments into a cohesive curriculum,
and provide critical training to enhance the competitiveness of projects developed
during and after your education at OSU.

additional courses (one as an elective) from different interdisciplinary core areas.
Elective courses will be approved on the student’s plan of study, which, when applicable,
will be coordinated with the student’s graduate advisory committee within their home
departments to determine if the elective courses apply to a concurrent graduate degree
program.
Admissions Requirements and Deadlines
Students are required to have a bachelor’s degree preferably in computer science,
statistics, mathematics, life sciences or related fields. Students can participate
in this certificate program while concurrently enrolled in an M.S. or Ph.D. degree
program. To apply to the bioinformatics graduate certificate program, you should complete
the graduate college application and pay the application fee.
